But the theatre now gripping the country has not unfolded on the stage but in a courthouse in the capital, Kiev. The setting is Pechersk District Court where Yulia Tymoshenko, the country’s former prime minister and one of the leaders of the Orange Revolution, is being prosecuted for allegedly abusing her power of office. Long time readers of Life in this World will recall my position on Tymoshenko: probably evil, definitely hot.

As the land of Nikolai Gogol and the adopted home of Anton Chekhov, Ukraine has long been enthusiastic about its playwrights. But the theatre now gripping the country has not unfolded on the stage but in a courthouse in the capital, Kiev.

New York Times - Ukraine Leader Drops Vote Challenge Prime Minister Yulia V. Tymoshenko of Ukraine effectively conceded the presidential election on Saturday by withdrawing her legal challenge, saying that she did not believe that she would get a fair hearing. Tymoshenko is completely untrustworthy but proves that evil is sexy. She’s still Prime Minister for now though. I like how in this picture she’s clearly exhausted (bags under the eyes, pale skin, etc.) but that only makes her hotter.
